Can this pecan pie be frozen?
Yes!
The temperature for this recipe is way too high. My pie is burnt. My Mom said the temperature should have been 300 degrees.
This pie brings back childhood memories! Thank you!
Great Recipe.
I have made this pie for years, the only recipe I use and it is excellent.
Like any pie, you need to protect the edge crust from over toasting. Put a makeshift rim of foil around the edges, or a manufactured device. A golden crust is what you are looking to achieve. Also, that creaming of butter and brown sugar is so dust blow. Instead, blend well the liquids and sugars, then add the stated amount of butter, melted. Lastly, chop some of the pecans. It makes for a better distribution of nuts at plating time.
All in all, this is a great recipe, using a unique (of this day) product.
this is not the original alaga recipe from the back of the jar. luckily i was able to find where i had taken a photo years ago. this pie tastes good but i had to cook it for 45 minutes longer than this called for. i will only use the original from now on – the filling is cooked some on the stovetop before going into the shell.
I liked the original recipe.
Can you post or send me a copy of the original recipe?
I’m not a baker so I followed the recipe hoping it would taste like my grandma’s when she used Alaga syrup. It didn’t and at 450° I burned it
Here is the Original Alaga Pecan Pie Recipe – the one the Alabama State Fair Blue Ribbon for best pie – This is the one that has you boil the syrup and sugar together so that it makes a special syrup – It is tricky to whisk your eggs into the hot syrup but I feel its worth it …
Original Alaga Syrup Pecan Pie Recipe from the Label …
Preheat oven to 350
1-9″ pie plate lined with pie crust
Put Pecans into pie plate lined with pie crust.
1 cup Alaga cane syrup
3/4 cup white sugar
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 stick butter
1 Tbl vanilla extract
1 cup whole pecans
Bring syrup and sugar to a boil and boil for 3 minutes.
Add hot syrup to beaten eggs, beating constantly.
Add butter, let melt.
Add vanilla.
Pour over pecans.
Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes.
Just to note, I will use 1 cup brown sugar instead of the white sugar and I melt the butter and add the vanilla with the sugar and syrup just to cut down on a few steps – I am also very generous in measuring my ‘cup’ of pecans … 🙂
